• Fundraiser started to help Maidstone family left homeless and without belongings after house fire

  • A fundraiser has been set up to help a family whose home and belongings were completely destroyed in a fire near Maidstone.Four fire engines attended the scene on The Street in Mereworth in the early hours of yesterday morning (February 23).One person suffered burns, whilst two other people, including a child, were treated for smoke inhalation.

    The cause of the fire is unknown but it is believed to have started in a bedroom on the first floor before engulfing the roof.The tragic story of loss behind couple who won £260,000 home on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway.The house belonged to Lyn and Graeme Hodges and their son, Kris, has now set up a GoFundMe page to help them get their lives back on track.

    He explained: “In the early hours of Sunday February 23, unfortunately, our family home in Mereworth was decimated to nothing by a fire.”Everyone, including the baby and the two cats have survived which we are all beyond grateful and blessed to be able to say.

    Kris has said the family have all been taken aback at the outpouring of support they have received.Within the first few hours, more than £1,100 has already been raised towards the £5,000 target.Mr Hodges continued: “We have been overwhelmed with support and people offering help which we are truly grateful for.”We never expected to experience something like this and really are so lucky to have everyone escaped relatively unharmed.””Any contributions whatsoever to reduce the burden would be hugely appreciated at this time.”
